''In my position within logistics research and education, I often come across young men. Girls who follow logistics courses (and who don’t do badly either!), do not always move into the logistics field. Perhaps it is an image issue, the idea that Logistics is really something for men. Unfamiliarity with logistics and its diversity of professions in secondary education does not help either. And “unknown makes unloved,” (as we say in the Netherlands). This is such a shame, because Logistics has an increasing need for skills that women often bring with them. Think of teamwork, accuracy, communication skills…

The Young Talent programme of Diversity Works focusses on this issue. We work on initiatives to attract, train and guide more female talent into jobs in Supply Chain and Logistics. I look forward to committing myself to this with my colleague Miranda Vodegel!”
